The History of WBB FC:
Watts Blake Bearne FC was founded in 1965 and one of the main instigators was a well known community member called Alan Rowe and he went on to become a well known referee. There home ground was Homers Lane Kingsteignton and they had a caravan as changing room facilities. The team consisted of WBB Clay Works employess.
After a few years WBB Clay Works finally took the football team seriously and gave them prefab changing room facilities. In the 80's the football team moved to Abbrook Farm because WBB Clay Works were going to excavate the land at Homers Lane. With moving to Abbrook Farm the club benefited from new changing room facilities and a new clubhouse which was used as a members only club for WBB Clay Works employess.
After many consecutive seasons in the top half of the league table and while under the management of Guy Fawden and Barrie Hodge they were the only club in Devon to be in three consecutive Devon senior cup finals but in 1999 they took a turn for the worse and went through a bleak stage because WBB Clay Works went through a transitional period and decided to shut down the social facilities of WBB Sports & Social Club but gave the football club permission to carry on using the sports facilities on the Abbrook Farm site.
With all the changes that had been put in place WBB FC had to find new club house facilities and a big thank you goes out to Sid and Mandy at the Kings Arm Pub in Kingsteignton for letting the Football team use there pub for socialising and welcoming visiting teams after home games.
After five years of the original club house being shut down at Abbrook Farm, Louise Hodge and Jan Gordon fought long and hard to get the social club facilities up and running again and all the meetings and paperwork paid off because with the help of volunteers the social club at Abbrook Farm was re-opened in May 2004 and a big thank you goes out to WBB Minerals, Gary Stringer in particular for helping Louise and Jan accomplish their goal and for handing back the keys to the club house. The facilities are now known as Abbrook Park Sports and Social Club.
Watts Blake Bearne Football Club went back to Abbrook Park to use the new club house and fought there way back up the league tables as both the 1st and reserves were promoted this season and are now in Division one and Division three and are both in the top half of there league tables.
We have now welcome a Third team to Watts Blake Bearne which is run by Mark Backhouse and Kevin Davies and would like to wish them the best of luck in the new season.
